The transition from education to the workplace is incredibly challenging, and the realisation that hard work and good qualifications are not, in themselves, enough to guarantee success in the workplace can come as a shock to many students.

Whether it’s knowing how to write a professional CV or best showcase their achievements in an interview, or understanding which soft skills are most prized by employers, we can explain to your students exactly what lies ahead of them, and what will be required if they are to succeed in the working world.

Engaged Learning

For students, talk of CVs, Interviews & Assessments can sound like a foreign language.

We use engaging visual aids, quizzes, team games and more to explain what exactly is expected of young people when they are applying for a job

CV Review

Experienced professionals can get flustered when they have to update their CV, and it's even more challenging for students writing one for the first time!

We explain the importance of a strong CV and give your students the tools and guidance to write their own

Practice Interviews

Having provided them with the theory behind strong interview performance, we put the students in a practice interview scenario.

We highlight which questions the student has answered well, and also identify key areas for improvement

Group Assessments

We split your students into teams to find a solution to a fictitious business problem.

Students are assessed on their individual contribution to the team, and must display attributes such as strong communication, problem solving, teamwork & time management

Writing your first CV

For most people, your CV is the most financially important document you will ever own, and writing one for the first time can be daunting and confusing.

By teaching them the ‘5 Pillars of a Great CV’ – Structure, Content, Language, Visuals & Submission – we provide students with the tools & knowledge to write their own CV, skills which they will carry with them throughout their future careers.

And, bearing in mind they are just about to step onto the career ladder, we can also advise them on how to start building the type of part-time or internship experience that top employers look for.

Interview Skills

Part-time jobs, Apprenticeships, Internships and Graduate Roles will all have different entry requirements, but they have one thing in common – they all require you to perform well at interview to get the job.

As your students take their first steps towards the working world, we can help you prepare them for this transition with our Interview skills training.  We'll explore:

  • The 5 different types of interview you will encounter
  • Preparing for the most common interview questions
  • The 3 things that all Interviewers look for
  • How to answer Competency Questions
  • The crucial ‘Will you do the job?’ questions
  • Questions you should & shouldn’t ask at interview
  • Body language & Handling nerves
  • What NOT to say in an interview!
  • The importance of Post-Interview Admin

Essential Workplace Skills

Have you ever thought ‘If only I knew at the start of my career what I know now…’?

You see, many of us left school with great technical skills and knowledge, but lacking the understanding of how best to apply these in the workplace.

We pull back the curtain to explain to students how the working world operates, and give them early advice on how to succeed in it.  We explain:

  • How people find a job (adverts; social media; recruitment agencies; careers fairs etc)
  • What a typical recruitment process looks like (applications, CVs, interviews, assessments)
  • How to select the right placement year or internship
  • Essential workplace skills (Networking, communication, time management, teamwork, problem solving, work ethic)

University Interviews & Personal Statements

The similarities in the admissions processes for top universities and leading businesses are unmistakeable.  Whether it's an Application Form & Personal Statement, or a CV & Cover Letter, both institutions initially review applicants against their essential criteria, before inviting those shortlisted to interview.

And the principles behind securing an offer are also the same, i.e.

  1. You research to understand what the university / company is looking for
  2. You self-audit to decide which of your skills, experiences & motivations best align to what they are looking for
  3. You join the dots between the two

We support your Careers Departments and Year Heads by helping your students - either in groups or individually - to understand exactly what is expected of them at this critical juncture in their lives, and how to deliver on those expectations.

Questions?

Simply email [email protected], briefly outlining your requirements (e.g. Class sizes, age groups, specific topics you'd like us to focus on etc).

We will then contact you to discuss next steps, including the type of programme that best suits your requirements.

Alternatively, you can call us on +44 (0) 7900 555525

Not necessarily!  We live in a digital age and ensure that our training programmes our flexible enough to meet your specific requirements.

While most schools/colleges will prefer programmes to be delivered in classrooms or lecture theatres, others may prefer delivery via video conference - both are good options, depending on what works for you!

At joecareers.com, we pride ourselves on delivering bespoke programmes that meet the specific requirements of our clients.

As soon as we have a clear understanding of your requirements and how we can best meet them, we will provide you with detailed costings.

Please email [email protected] for more information.

We tailor our sessions to meet your objectives, and the material and learnings can benefit any student from Year 11 onwards.

By the age of 16, most students have started work in some capacity.  For some, that means full-time permanent work, while for others it is a part-time position to build experience and earn money while studying.

For example, a 3rd level institution may engage us to help prepare their students for applying/interviewing for internships, graduate roles or apprenticeships.

On the other hand, a grammar or secondary school may ask us to focus on familiarising their students with the way the job market works, introducing them to interview techniques or helping them write their first CV.

We will certainly provide guidance and recommendations but, ultimately, we will listen carefully to your requirements and create a program that works best for your unique circumstances.

We will work in partnership with your Careers Department.

That may consist of us introducing students to a topic that the Careers Department lack considerable experience in, and explaining it to them using methods that are simple to follow and can be easily recalled for future use.

Or, on the other hand, it could be an area where the Careers Department already provide excellent guidance, in which case we would reinforce and augment their messaging with the perspective and guidance gained from our years of practical experience.  In this scenario, we also find that something as simple as teaching a familiar topic but with a different voice can resonate with and engage some students!

Complementary

We will work alongside your Careers Department, reinforcing their messaging and further engaging & guiding students with our 'real world' perspective

Experience

From graduate schemes to apprenticeships, we have extensive experience of what top employers look for when recruiting and developing 'first-jobbers'

Flexible

We understand that all schools & colleges are unique, and will tailor our programme to best suit your particular objectives, requirements and ethos
